Your presentation should consist of a minimum of 10 slides and a maximum of 14 slides, not including the title and reference slides. In your presentation, please include the following:   title slide including your name and the state you selected,   political party structure/make-up,   types of primaries,   state party organizations,   state government structure,   campaign methods of a state candidate/incumbent,   make-up of your state legislature (i.e., gender, age, profession),   apportioning and districting information,   legislative institutionalization of your state,   party issues in your state, and   three-four pictures, maps, or graphs. Please note: Your slides should include explanations of the above points. Please do not copy and paste lists of senators and representatives into your slides. You may include additional information you feel is relevant, but do not create more than 14 slides. Use your creativity, and organize the material in a logical and understandable manner. PS 2010, American State and Local Politics 2   All sources used must be cited and referenced accordingly. Please include a reference slide at the end of your presentation (not counted in your 10-14 content slides).     Unit V Mini Project A privately owned island off the coast of Florida has been left to you by the eccentric owner who passed away recently. The island is large enough for several small communities to be developed, so you want to start off on the right foot by establishing a local government, a judicial system, and a law enforcement system. The only stipulation is that you cannot be dictator of the island. For the Unit V Mini Project, you will describe the following points:   the type of local government you would establish (e.g., county, city),   the form of that government (e.g., township, municipal charter),   the management system (e.g., commission, mayor, council),   how leadership positions would be instated (e.g., appointment, election),   the type of law enforcement and judicial system you would put into place, and   your rehabilitation system for any criminal offender. You can mix and match your government, judicial, and law-enforcement decisions, but you must fully explain the reasons why you chose the types of systems. Your mini project must be at least three full pages in length, not including your title page and reference page, if you choose to use references. Outside sources are not a requirement, but if you choose to use them, they must be cited and referenced accordingly.         Unit VII Case Study Research an affirmative action court case (a case that has or is going through the judicial system) that is not mentioned in the textbook. The age of the case does not matter. Once you have located your court case, you will write a case study that includes the following: Summarize (in your own words) the history and outcome of your chosen court case. What are the issues surrounding affirmative action in this case? Is a part of the law being challenged? Do you agree or disagree with the specific findings of the case? Now that you have explained the case, please provide your own opinion regarding affirmative action. In your response, please include the following:   Describe the positives and negatives.   How successful has affirmative action been in correcting inequalities?   Should affirmative action be continued forever or discontinued at some point? Your paper should be at least 500 words in length or two full pages in length. While you may include your opinion in this assignment, please avoid using the first person “I.” Additionally, you are required to use at least one outside source to support your opinion. You may choose the article in the required reading or a different source of choice. Your paper must have a title and reference page. All source material must be referenced (paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations). You may use the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA Style Guide) or the CSU Citation Guide for reference.
