Basic Understanding – This is an exam for my social work Social Policy class. I will provide you background information about things that were discussed in class, but you are not allowed to cite any of it. NO OUTSIDE SOURCES EITHER. It should almost be like you are writing the answers to the test in class. o You can look at the textbook: Jimenez, J., Pasztor, E.M., Chambers, R.M., & Fujii, C.P. (2014). Social Policy & Social Change: Toward the Creation of Social and Economic Justice. SAGE Publications. o I also send you a class point point and notes from the class. – It should be formatted like any other paper – introduction, body and conclusion. – Follow all direction indefinitely. – Follow the rubric indefinitely. – Keep a social work lens and perspective throughout the entire paper. This is extremely important. *After you write the first draft I will provide more details and opinions on how to better the paper. It depends on what you write, which is why it’ll be provided later.* Guidelines: – The exam must be well-written o Go into detail, and when you state something make sure you it is supported with something. – Fill the entire 2 pages all the way to the bottom with words. – You are NOT allowed to consult books, articles, notes, power points, etc. once you being writing. I can give you class material, but you are NOT allowed to cite any of it. o Feel free to do any researching you need in order to get a good understanding, but again, do not cite them. It is as if you are taking a test in class reflecting on what you had learned throughout the year. – The introduction to the question must have a synopsis of all that is included in your answer. (you can use it like a checklist). This should include all that is required in the question and other relevant material (for e.g. Impact on minorities, values, impact of market economy). – Use headings and subheadings to highlight different perspectives. (For example. Impact on minorities/Critique of Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act/Prevailing Values) QUESTION/what the paper is about: answer all parts of the question. 1. Describe the concepts of universally-based social services verses needs-based social provision. What are the values and ideas underlying each? Using your knowledge of programs such as Medicare, Social Security, TANF, SNAP etc., write an essay comparing the benefits/disadvantages of each type of social provision.
