First Article/Chapter: Morgan’s (1997) chapter brings up the issue of interests leading to conflicts that tend to be addressed/resolved through the exercise of one or more forms of power. In what ways do competing interests among actors appear in your case/issue? What conflicts do they create? And how to actors draw on sources of power to address these conflicts? What is the “fall-out” from the use(s) of power? 2nd Article/Chapter: Milley’s (2008) chapter offers a lens for analyzing politics in educational organizations and how they may be addressed through “communicative action” (a.k.a. authentic dialogue). In what ways do politics reveal themselves in your case/issue? How might they relate to an imbalance between strategic and communicative interactions among actors? How might the negative effects of politics in the case/issue be mitigated drawing on ideas in the chapter? – You are also welcome to bring other insights, reflections or questions to bear.
