There are many examples today of how individuals feel the need to attain luxury items as a status symbol and to keep up with the Joneses, (Herzing, n.d.). We all have seen examples extravagant purchases made by others that we know personally that may seem way out of their price range. Yet, people will make sacrifices to attain these items as a status symbol, if only just to show others that they were able to afford them.
